How To Cook A Restaurant Quality Meal For Fifty Cents

Posted on | November 7, 2008 | 1 Comment

I just made myself a meal that was so good, so fast and so cheap that I have to brag about it.

The meal itself was simple…spaghetti with an easy tomato sauce.  What made it restaurant quality was the delicious taste and the attractive way it was served.  Best of all, it took under five minutes of hands-on time and cost less than $.50 per diner.

Fast and Delicious Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients:

1 large can crushed tomatoes, Italian Style

     1 tablespoon olive oil

     1 tsp. crushed dried basil

     1 tsp. powdered garlic

     a generous pinch of pepper

salt, to taste  (I like a lot)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients and simmer until pasta is ready or at least 15 minutes.

Optional: Use hand blender to pulp ingredients when finished cooking.

Perfect Pasta

Add one pound of pasta to rapidly boiling water.  Stir well.  Cook till el dente.  Drain immediately.  Add 1/2 stick butter and 1 tsp. salt.  Mix well.

To Serve

Place 1/4 of the pasta in a large dinner plate.  Top the center of the pasta with 1/4 of the sauce.  About 1 inch all around the edges should be left unsauced.  Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and serve right away.

Add a small green salad with ranch dressing to round out the meal.

Utterly delicious!

Thanks, thats quite useful to know! I must admit to being a bit useless in the kitchen, but I’m trying my best to learn. Admitting is the first step to recovery right!!? I promised to cook something for my wife this weekend for the first time – very exciting! I found some simple recipe at this site, seems to be designed exactly for people like me, which is great! Anyway, thanks for your tips, I’ll be sure to bookmark your site to read more later.
